Re: [ATM] Solar Filtering

My preference is for the Baader AstroSolar film sold by Astro-Physics:

olar

Similar to Mylar but more durable. I made my filter out of poster paper and
tape.

Subject: [ATM] Solar Filtering

Hi, ATM'ers.

I'm looking to add solar filtering to my 8" (203mm) f/6 scope. I built it
as a travelscope with an octogon secondary, so it won't accept any of the
off-the-shelf filter assemblies, and I'll have to build one. Which brings
me to two questions.

Question #1:
I've seen scopes with full aperature filtering, and others with a cover that

blocks all the sunlight except for a smaller filtered hole of about 3"-4"
(75mm - 100m). Which is better, or is it just a cost issue?

Question #2:
Where can I purchase filtering material at the best cost vs. value?

Thanks in advance!
- Dave
