Re: [ATM] Ellison, The Amateur's Telescope
Hi Dominic,
You can find a brief biography of the Rev. Wm. F.A. Ellison and his work at
Armagh Observatory at http://star.arm.ac.uk/history/moore/Part05.html. He
took Holy Orders in 1890.
I have a 1934 second edition of "The Amateur's Telescope" in which there's a
short letter written by Rev. Ellison and sent with the book. The letter has
an embossed Armagh Obsevatory and "The Heavens declare the Glory of God"
stamped into the top center. The letter reads:
8th May 1934
Dear Mr. Epley,
I enclose herewith a copy of the second ed. Amateur's Telescope. The price
is 7/6 say $1.75.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Wm. F.A. Ellison
PS: There's a printer error on p. 30 where the two lines at the top of page
should come after fig. 15 on same.
End of letter.
He didn't sign it "Reverend" but on the front cover it says: By Rev. WM. F.
A. Ellison, M.A., B.D., F.R.A.S., F.R. Met. Soc. He's a man of many letters
and I'm sure dear to many an ATM's heart.
I just thought if would be fun to share this with everyone.
