 I have one of those old Sky Micro focusers. Sky Micro focusers combined
helical thread and rack and pinion. One used the pinion for coarse focusing
and turned the barrel for fine focusing. Focusing with the Sky Micro is like
driving on driving cobblestone road. Why  would  one want to reinvent the
wheel?
