Conceeded.  However, there are important differences.  The whiffle tree
works by distributing load whereas the astatic supports yield constant
pressure at points.  That means that the whiffle tree depends on the mirror
resting properly without bindage.  The astatic supports are independent of
each other: take one out, add another in - doesn't matter.
