[ATM] Astatic Mirror Support and Lateral Edge Supports for UltraThin Mirrors

Hi,

The best source of information on astatic mirror support I could find is
from a list member Frederic Gea:

http://www.astrosurf.com/altaz/astatic.htm
David - I especially like the second photo because this is in your ball park
for thickness ratio. Astatic cells may be just the ticket for ultra thin
mirrors.

Piano Wire Lateral Edge Supports:
================================
Another list member (Jim I believe) was more concerned about lateral edge
support for such thin mirrors.
Frederic also provided some excellent information on piano wire supports at
the following location:

Ball Bearing Lateral Edge Supports:
==================================
Another option is a ball bearing edge support. This is the method I chose
for my larger scope. Jan vanGastel has some wonderful information on this
subject on his web page at:
http://home.wanadoo.nl/jhm.vangastel/Astronomy/50cmscope/bearingsupport.htm

Does anyone have experience with either of these lateral support methods to
discuss the range of mirror thickness where these techniques remain
effective?

Thanks,

Peter
