By visual guess and by golly they are at most about 12 inches between
supports points on the 18 point cell. This would mean in the center there
is glass, 3/4 inch thick or so spanning 12 inches. I think it is probably
doable. How much distortion is there in 12 inches of glass suspended at
the edges?
In a pie plate, (significantly lighter weight, but thinner in ratio), the
mirror is suspended from the edges with no distortion. I think the weight
will a critical element in the success of the project.
