I think it is a mechanical attachment, no glue involved, and snugged up by
the bolts and cinch points at the top. The glass is just standing on edge
in the ring and the ring is taking the weight of the glass and holding it
to the cell back. The supports do what supports do in any cell.
They may have problems in use. The 16 inch looked great on edge just
standing on the test rack, but deformed at less that perpendicular. The
glass would probably be very steady while hanging there but tip it back a
bit and it could deform quickly. What does 30 inches of 1 inch glass
weigh?
Cool idea, I hope it works. I suppose a similar thing could be done on a
slumped blank. Once Dale gets done with his tests and sends me back the
16 inch I will try it. I would have to clean up the edge of the 15.5 and
there are other issues with that piece of glass.
