[ATM] detecting TDE before polishing

I've been machine polishing  like a mule now to remove some TDE that I believe I ground in when I was increasing the bevel using  a friends polishing wheel in their glass shop. Went back to 12 micron for 1-1/2 hrs thought that might get it.So far no go. Nothing zonal showed in spherometer readings. Pitch hardness is good.room temp good . Various settings for overhang of lap all produce same result. I've seen one article that illustrates detecting TDE by viewing the mirror from the side and looking at curvature of reflected lines by the mirrors edge. Any other methods out there?
