If he is making a f8 system, using a f4 (as opposed to the normal f3 
primary) increases the size of the secondary, not decreases it.  It should 
make his field flatter (f4 primary versus f3 primary) but at the expense of 
a longer telescope and quite large, even for a RC, secondary diameter.
