[ATM] Mel's wire spider

I am making a spider based on Mel's design - single wire and crossed over approach. I have threaded it together a few times and it all looks fine after it comes off the jig but when I give the hub a slight twist to test the spider, the wire immediately comes loose. 

I am using bicycle spokes for tensioners at the six anchor points and I don't think they are coming loose.  The wire is called "Nichrome" resistance wire.  

Can anyone suggest what I should look at to fix this?
