You just mentioned it.
Physical strength limitation.
Even if Arnold will polish, he will notice that
excessive heat is produced in the process causing unwanted
glass deformations.
Slow strokes will be more uniform and continuous
process which is better suited to achieve averaging (in the
hand polishing case). So there is compromise not discrepancy
IMO.
