Since the mean free path of evaporated aluminum atoms in vacuum
is equal or longer than distance from Al source to mirror,
evaporated Al atoms will travel in straight lines. Masking can be done
by making screens that are not contacting the mirror and
not-to-be-aluminized surfaces are in the shadow of the mask.
Since Al source is not a point source, care must be taken
for avoiding penumbra.
There may be problems in supporting the mask but freshly coated mirror
surface will not require any post handling.
