I'm not sure how your concept is from the verbal description, but have
you considered Mel Bartels' wire spider concept?:

To me, Mel's seems the simplest design to implement, or even possible
considering the stability requirements. It is not possible to avoid
spikes altogether as long as the wires are straight - unless you plan
to spread them out (thick) by curving the vanes - thereby giving up the
desirable features (such as stability) of a wire (or any other) spider.
I haven't made any wire spiders myself, but it seems the way to go to
minimize total spider diffraction.
