Mikes suggestion about the bubbles is absolutely correct, Roland 
Herrmann, who wrote this comment wanted to point out that there is not 
much space for air inside the packed scope...

Mike,
the radius of the altitude bearings is 330mm .
The poles are not divided, they travel inside a rigid PVC- pipe.
