You might also add that it vavies in thickness. The 6mm stuff can be as
thin as 5.75mm, and the 18mm can be close to 17mm. This variation isn't
from sheet to sheet; it can be in the same sheet! I have an old Freud
dado blade with shims for the thinner stuff that became standard 10+
years ago. I bought a small piece at Lowe's for a quick project a month
ago. An 18 inch long dado is tight at one end, loose for about 6",
tight again, but loose at the other end!
We have gotten spoiled by the quality control that the wood industry
demonstrated here and in Canada for the more common stuff. I have some
true Baltic Birch plywood scrapes from years ago. What's currently
available is exactly the same thickness.
