With hundreds of moving parts, there have to be some tolerences. If you
"reverse engineer" a telescope and figure the number of moving parts
compared to an engine, you might be surprisd at the accuracy. A
telescope doesn't have a 30+ pound piece of metal rotating a 6,000
RPM!!!
If the auto industry as a whole could build their cars to tighter specs
(and quality conrol), they would be markedly better. Honda and Ferrari
have racing engines that will operate at 13,000 RPM, but these are
custom made for competition. Would you be willing to pay the premium
for the increased accuracy? Most folks wouldn't; that's why a
Rolls-Royce is such a rare sight. Besides, think of all the mechanics
you would put out of work!!! <<VBG>>
