[ATM] considering different design

I should start by saying I am fairly new to ATMing. I know most of you say 
to start with a newtonian but I stumbled across this page 
(www.customopticalsystems.com) and I feel the design is simple enough to 
build. I am wondering if the prices he set for optical sets (under the ATM 
section) are reasonable given that they are in canadian dollars? Or should I 
attempt to polish the optics myself?
Another way to ask the question is can I build a better planetary telescope 
for the same price?
