[ATM] virtual counterbalance question

Hey everybody,
Quick question about Tom Krajci's virtual counter
balance system:
I have his spreadsheets astro34.xls and astro37.xls
and have calculated my weights and distances and
measured the spring coefficients, but..
Either I'm just real stupid (highly likely ;O)) or I'm
missing something from the spreadsheet.
Now, I've emailed Tom already, but I suspect he's
busy, since I haven't heard back yet. Since I'm off
today and have some spare time (whoa), I was hoping to
get a jump start on installing the spring system. Can
any of y'all that have already installed said spring
systems tell me the equation used to calculate the
length of spring ncecssary? (just the equation...my
top end weight will change, as could my mirror box if
I add fans or a battery pack, dew heater, etc.) What
angle is used to calculate the torque/momentum? 
As always, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
