[ATM] what did I do wrong???

Hello to all out there,

I have polished my 6" f/7.4 mirror now for about 4 1/2 hours.  it is looking 
really good by eye, so I decided to put the ronchi/knife edge tester I built 
from the stellephane site 
(http://www.stellafane.com/atm/atm_foucault_tester/atm_tester_main.htm ) .  
I followed thier directions to a t. I lined up the mirror/tester with a 
flashlight, got the ROC, slid in my ronchi slide, turned off the flash 
light, turned on the led (red, 5000mcd 2.4v with the top cut off) and took a 
look. nothing, nada, zippo!!!  I could just make out a single dot on the 
mirror and I could see some lines but nothing like I have seen in photos 
where the entire mirror is lit up.  Should I have cut the diode? maybe left 
it as is?  I have all the lights turned off in the room so it is dark dark 
dark in there.  I used a laser pointer and my flashlight to line up the 
mirror itself to the tester so I know I am lined up.  any help would be 
welcomed for this confused soul lol lol
