ATM tangent arm drive

Saw this thread and it sparked a memory. Back in 1963 my dad helped me
make my first 6" newt for a science project.Part of the design was a manual
tangent arm-drive.The screw mechanism was off (believe it or not) an old
Piesecki,(sp) helicopter. Part of a crank for doing air-sea rescue work. We
made a wood clamp w/split hole and bolt bushing arrangement. This clamped on
to the polar shaft housing,(an old jacobson edger frame)A second arm held
the screw assy and drove the polar shaft,(I think) It was a long time ago.
But the thing worked great. Good enough to shoot some nice photos of the
moon and planets. The project got me to the Florida State Science Fair. And
met this really cute girl who was a teen model in Tampa...whoops! Keep it
G-rated Ron!Let me ask the old man how we did it.It really worked well
enough to do some astro-photography. Still plan to do this with my Cave 8".
regards, Ron
