I don't use a mold at all. I drop a little blob of
gooey pitch on the tool and repeat until it's
polka-dotted with pitch blobs. Use a blob about the
size of a Hershey's Kiss.

Press it as usual, and trim off the edges with a sharp
instrument so that the blobs have about a 45 degree
angle to them where they stuck to the lap.

Never mind the irregular size and shape of the pitch
blobs. This actually helps. This method saves the
cost of pitch molds and time-consuming cutting of the
gooeyest hot stuff in the world. Blob and press, and
you have a lap.
