Re: ATM Separating tool and mirror at fine grits

The mirror and tool should be moving smoothly in relationship to each other
with no sticking. If you're getting sticking then you have to work that out
with fairly short strokes that work in different directions with each
stroke. Doing a lot of strokes in one direction helps make a saddle surface
that isn't a figure of revolution and thus becomes a difficult thing to
rotate the mirror in relationship to the tool.
As you get to the finer grits, the mirror does have a tendency to stay with
the tool as you slide it off so you do need to slide it further off to get
the two apart. Be sure that you don't lift the mirror as you pull it
sideways or you will get a chip on the edge of the mirror as a result.
Letting the mirror drop a bit is better as any chipping will be on the tool
and if you are using a tile tool, the softer stone will allow the seperation
easier with its softer edges.
