Ah, don't despair! Even here in the states, different words are used for
the same thing. Some people call it a creek (some even pronounce it as
"crick"!) while others call it a stream.
Local monikers for things can vary a lot for any of a variety of reasons and
the local production of a particular product without the through knowledge
of other products made elsewhere can be one of the reasons for this.
Amongst them is the "Sonotube" thing which really should be mentioned as
"concrete form tubes" instead due to the manufacturer name being used for
the product.
Then lets not get into the Xerox thing where all Xerox did was a better
mimeograph machine.
