ATM 1/4 Micron
Thanks to all for your kind advice regarding my initial post "softening
pitch". I did get through the pitch lap making process, slipping into only
a mild phychosis. (Lap and mirror stuck, soaked- no help, froze-no help
finally heated water with mirror down (3/16" over bottom) in a large skillet
to near pitch melting point. Got them apart but guess what the pitch stuck
to the mirror! AAARRRGGHH!!
Got it off, made another. The new lap came out quite well. Hot channeled
it with a large soldering iron and warm pressed it with cheese cloth for
micro faceting. The lap had what my limited experience senses as very good
contact almost immediately.
I am nearly finished polishing, the surface seems fine and I would like to
do a star test if the sun ever comes out again. Have seen no sign of a star
or the sun for over a week here in Fresno!!
Getting to the point, I have an aerosol can of 1/4 micron diamond abrasive.
If the mirror is satisfactory after testing what would be the effect of a
short wet with the 1/4 micron? Would it be advisable?
