I learned the same thing using rouge: have a bucket of water and a bar of
soap next to the polishing table.  Wash hands before touching anything
else.  Takes some discipline -- I kept getting rouge on my face -- I must
scratch it a lot.  But I never got any rouge on anything else.

RE: Bob's comment on showering every 2 hours
I don't work that fast. At least not in elapsed time.  I found one grit
size per night or two was all I could muster.
