Re: ATM Softening pitch
Arthur,
>...I hope someone will kindly answer:
Unless your last name is Shrub, you'll likely only get kind answers.
>...one kilo of Gugolz 74,
I guess it's cold in the valley. I use turpentine and bees wax. Used bees
wax last night. Both work fine. As you know it takes very little
turpentine.
>...perform an adequate Foucault test on a 5 micron
I keep trying, it's yet to work. The bottom line, except for extreme
errors, lots of stig say, doing a foucault before a mirror is polished out
is pointless.
>...I am thinking of heating the pitch out in my back yard
I use a small electric hot plate mostly. Sometimes I'll reheat the surface
with a blow torch. If the pitch catches fire, I blow it out quickly.
Burned pitch doesn't leave a very good polish. I tried some experiments
setting pitch on fire. It put its self out pretty fast. I think I'll have
to add a bunch of turpentine for the torch march on Casa del Blanco.
>Is there any easily acquired substance to which pitch will not adhere?
Yes, tape. Epoxy won't stick to this either.
>...in motor oil
Motor oil, as do most oils, softens pitch into goo. Also check the archive
for other channeling ideas.
>...is there any possibility of using ceramic as a mirror media?
If you mean Cervit, Astro-sil, Zerodur, ... then yes. If you mean
porcelain, well only a telescope making fool would try that. Check the
archive for my on others efforts
