There is a hot plate that water gets warmed in.  Heat the water to boiling
and turn the lap over and put the pitch part into the water for about 30
seconds and the lap is hot enough to take a deep imprint of the fingernail
and thus quite warm enough to accept the mirror.  Putting the mirror into
the water before it gets to hot to play in and you end up with a nice warm
mirror.  Give it 10 minutes and it is pretty warm all over.
