ATM chasing pits??
Hello to all,
I am making my first mirror, a 6" f6 with plate glass 1" and a tile tool. I
started with 80, then onto 120. at 120, I marked some pits on the mirror
with the sharpie. I ground those out, and notices some more in different
spots. most of these occure with in the center of the mirror. marked those
and ground them out. I then moved onto 220. this is where I ran into 2
questions.
first, I worked the glass for about 1 hour, took a look, it looked great,
with the exception of 5 pits, marked them, and ground out another 1/2 hour,
those pits were gone, but 2 more showed up. slightly larger than the rest.
these are, again, towards the center. I am using a "W" stroke, about 3/4"
over hang. and with that out of the way, here are the
questions......(finally lol)
1) is 1 1/2 hours long enough on 220 grit? the mirror has improved 100%
over the 120 for sure.
2) should i chase these couple of pits and why do they appear only towards
the center of the mirror.
I clean the mirror and tool each wet, the mirror gets a dunk in a bucket and
the tool wiped down.
This is a first mirror that will then lead me into a 16 - 18" mirror. I
have build a couple of scopes, 8" dobs, but allways wanted to go all the way
and start from scratch, literally lol lol. (sorry bad late night humor).
thanks to all, you have been a great help with advice and encouragment.
