Depends upon the glass, the pitch, the speed of movement and what you are
using for the polishing agent.
Slow strokes will cause less heating of the glass and should make the polish
smoother.
Repetitive strokes in the same direction and length will also cause
problems.
CeO and plate glass can cause problems also even with fairly slow strokes
and you may want to go to rouge to finish up and figure the mirror.
Finally, polishing pads will make a lumpy mirror surface very easily and the
cure for that is to change the stroke length and offset from the center a
lot and with each stroke.
