The blank will be just fine.  You may get some oddities in the Airy Disk if
the ellipsoid shape of the edge is large (the Airy Disk is basically the
shape of the obstruction edge's diffraction) compared to a circle.
I've got one guy that cut his glass to as big as he felt he needed and there
is a flat on each side of the circle that is about 2" long on a 6+" piece of
glass.  He's happy so I'm happy.
