Re: ATM pitch lap woes--help appreciated
Sounds like your second lap is perfect! Don't worry about small areas that
aren't in contact as it is the general amount of surface, not particular
little points that matter. As the lap works, those few little areas that
aren't in contact right now will gradually work in and you will get all of
the lap in contact. Start working on it now and you will be way ahead.
Even if there are some areas where there is no contact, you don't have to
worry as the lap will do a perfect job of polishing and figuring the glass
surface.
It actually ends up being things that you can't see that cause the most
problems with laps - hard spots and so forth are what really cause problems
with laps.
FWIW, people spend way too much time trying to get that perfect lap with all
kinds of complex rituals and never really get to doing what the lap is
supposed to do which is polish some glass.
