Rumor based upon somebody overhearing a partial description of something and
not understanding what he was hearing nor having heard the whole thing that
was talked about by the two individuals that were discussing the material.
The probable truth is that they use an aluminum alloy that is also used in
aircraft parts. Please note that this doesn't mean that the parts were
trunnion bearings in an aircraft or intended for that purpose, merely that
the particular alloy of the aluminum is speced for use in that particular
application. If you poked about on the specs for aluminum that got used on
the shuttles, you will probably also find some of that spec on the shuttle.
Does that mean that the aluminum got made for the shuttle? I think not!
