construct. You just make up a whole bunch of identical parts and assemble

Well, the problem is that these points need to be very free to move in the
proper axis of freedom.  If one builds more and more supports on top of
supports like a fractal pattern, the ability of the individual flotation
points to freely move with no frictional loading and to move equally well as
their partners across the mirror cell, disappears rapidly.  Two levels of
support ala a 9 pt support is ok, three levels is starting to be iffy, and
four definitely needs some re-thinking.  The astatic mount designs become
very attractive.
