If you read the description of figure 3 it is an oblate ellipsoid. And note
the added "(gross under-correction)" on the description. There is NO WAY
that if your mirror at all resembles figure 3 that you can be over
corrected. If you were overcorrected then you would be seeing something
like figure 6. As a parabola and hyperboloid are by definition an
"overcorrected" sphere.
Draw a inside & outside RoC picture using the paint program with 3,4 or 5
lins showing and perhaps a few of us can give you better advice.
