From a observing standpoint 12v DC at about 5AH should do it - along with a regular deep cell battery. The battery could handle any additional loads at night and recharge it during the day. I can go indefinitely now with a 3AH charger. If the waste heat could be used for dew heaters that would save quite a bit of battery power. (Hey, let a guy dream).
Get it the size of a small auto battery and in the $500 range and I'll go for it, as long as the consumables are reasonable.
