ATM Alpha Decay (Was CeO and Radon)

If I'm not mistaken, is alpha emissions just electrons?  If it's
electrons, there should be an easy way to harness them.  Electrons are
easy to control.  Wouldn't an electron pile be a good enough substitute
for a battery?  Would it be too radioactive, and thus need a lead shield?
