ATM Newbie questions from Argentina

Hello people,
    Im a totaly new guy on all this , i only have a "trashco"
    refractor, and i want to build my own scope (8" F6 Dobsonian)...
    There are pleny of resources on the web on how to grind the mirror, etc..
    The problem is ... i can find here the Silicon Carbide, Aluminium
    Oxide, etc... BUT... There's no way of get "Pyrex" in here, so im
    stuck with plate glass... the Problem is.. the thicker available
    here is 20mm (a little over 3/4") , the question is... can i make
    the mirror from this "thin" glass??... or is better to "glue"
    (maybe using epoxy) 2 pieces together to make a 40 mm thick Plate glass?
    By the way, im very tight with funds :(
