ATM Yet another interesting thought

Hi Chuck, Hi List,

....some interesting thoughts last days....

here is one of mine:

I am thinking for some months about a active system wich can
be used to control the telescope optics.
The system should be able to be used for precision automated
(remote) focusing, automated (interactive) collimation,
field corrections ("adaptive optics" like AO7)
(seeing correction in tip/tilt, focus lag).

Impossible?
not really.

All we need ist (example for a SC system) a system of three actuators
on the secondary wich replaces the three collimation screws.
A small microcontroller with Handpad is used to control the
actuators simultanously for focus control or independent for
all other uses.

Ideally these actuators are made from voice-coils with feedback
(to speed up tip/tilting corrections),
but for precision focussing / collimation purposes micro-stepper motors
with spindles will work too.

This all can be realized by relative simple, common available parts
and must not be very expensive.

Any comments / ideas?
