Schaer took some scopes up to the Jungfraujoch, at about 10.000 feet
altitude. In H.C. King 'The History of the Telescope' is the following
(plus more):
Schaer made a 16" Newtonian and several 16" and 24" Cassegrains and
invariably gave the primary mirrors aperture rations of f/2 to f/4.

>From the book it seems that he really was an artist. One example is a
39.5 inch f/3 mirror that was astigmatic, probably due to the
constrictions of his fifth floor workshop. He remedied it by local
polishing of the hyperboloidal secondary.
