ATM a crazy idea
In an article written for the Readers Indigestion, "An optician
never finishes a piece of
glass, it is usually taken from him". This was in reference to the making
of the main mirror
for the Hubble Space Telescope. Of course in this case they should have
left him alone to discover the very tiny astigmatism problem!LOL!It is for
this reason that I have not started
to grind my own 12" silica aggravation. I'd take 3 years to finish the
optics alone!
Now for today's silly idea.If you take a piece of delrin or teflon, and
turn it in a lathe, you
will get a very nice ribbon of stretchy swarf. This stuff can be very
easily wound on to a spool
and used for something later. Such as the material for building nuts for
lead-screws.Correct
me if I'm wrong, but can you not wind this stuff on a screw under tension
while applying an
epoxy to the screw? I would think this to be an ideal way of achieving a
100% thread.
