I've been using a video camera to do my testing for some time.  It allows
the owner of the mirror to see what is going on real easy.  The lens of the
camera needs to be half blocked by the KE or close to it for best results.
Brightness changes for the overall brightness of the light should happen as
your eye goes out of the center of the return but changes from left and
right brightness ratio shouldn't be happening if you're in a fairly dark
room (the true brightness is masked by the ambient light and thus you go
away from the linear relationship of the true difference in brightness) and
if so then you have to look at the testing setup to see what is going on.
