Re: ATM mid-Atlantic ATMs - help with history
Hello:
Many yrs ago I was a member of the Amateur Astornomers' Assn of New York
City. We had an Optical Division that had a wonderful shop in the basement of
the old Hayden Planetarium.
I left NYC around 1960 and lost track of the guys in the OD some years later.
Frank Aime was building a 16 inch Cass; Dick Luce was helping everyone; Roy
Seely had built one of the first Schmidt telescopes in this country; John
Riccichi built an 8 inch Gregorian. In other words great stuff was going on.
This was Allan J. Thompson's old hang-out.
Does anyone on this list know what happened to the Amateur Astronomers'
Association? It had about 500 members but seems to have disappeared. What
about the old OD? Did it die before the Hayden Planetarium was pulled down
for the new one? It had a wonderful optical / machine shop. What happened?
Any clues appreciated
Many thanks
Frank
