Oh yea, well when I was an old drunken college student I made an 18" f/1 on
an irregular 1/16" inch piece of tempered window glass from the student
union building.  And I had to grind it in a ditch, with a rusty nail, while
I was on my knees, and it was raining.  I polished it with spit and a piece
of worn out blue jeans.  The mirror was 1/100 wave, at least.

Saddly, it was later used as a punch bowl, got a little scratch at the
center, and I threw it away.  That's why I don't have it anymore.
