ATM spray silver?

including a reference to "spray silver" coating, which sounds like it might
be used temporarily to test big optics.  A couple of years ago I
corresponded with a Canadian whose ATM mentor back in the thirties used a
silver solution that was sprayed on.  This man said the method is easy and
very economical, and he wanted to find the formula so he could try it
again.  Can anyone detail this?
