Re: ATM What's the best flat black tube paint?
I'm in the process of painting my tube. What has worked best so far is the
Testors Flat Black Enamel Model Spray Paint. Nice flat finish that doesn't
reflect any light at small angles of incidence. Of course, this is my first
try, but it looks good so far. Worst problem is that it took two full cans
to spray the tube. Went on quick and easy though.
I did have some problems initially with adherence. It seemed to come off as
black dust. Then I went back, scrubbed the inside of the tube with some 00
steel wool, then painted it with Krylon Black Polyurethane. This adhered
well to the tube, but left a slightly glossy finish. Clean up was a mess as
well. So I oversprayed with the Testors. Good adherence to the Krylon with
a nice flat finish.
