You're right there.  You need to look at them with several
orientations of the mirror, 45 degree shifts are the best, and
see where the S is the worst.  There are two orientations that
will not produce the odd shape, with and opposite the lines at 80
degrees.  Get the angle right and you can see the line in the
center actually reverse itself!
