The run from a sphere to a paraboloid is the old standard way of
diing things and it does work.  Once you have some mirrors under
your belt, going from something strange to a paraboloid can be
done with the intelligent use of the strokes you are used to.  I
have found that the parabola is an elusive creature when getting
past about a quarter wave and do respect anybody that regularly
does it without bending the glass to make it easy.
I'l note that two years ago I had a 9 year old girl in the group
that successfully did a 6" mirror and, regretfully, I didn't
watch her closely as she ended up with a nice paraboloid right
awy!
