That said, if you don't want to go back to 120 grit and you don't want 
to ignore it, measure size of the chips carefully, do about 10-15 
minutes with 25 micron, and measure again. It may be they're not as deep 
as you think and will be measurably smaller. If they are, you can 
estimate how much longer it'll take at 25 micron to grind them out. If 
not, you're only set back to starting 9 micron again.

FWIW I often polish directly from 25 micron. It takes longer to polish, 
but I don't have to worry about chips.
