Are there no children among us? I mean other than me. I've set fire to the inside of a tube. Mostly it smoldered. I've cracked the eye lens of a 9mm eyepieces pushing solar projection past it's limit. But I mean really, how is the secondary of a visual Newtonian going to be damaged by pointing the instrument at the Sun? Its like maybe sixteen times brighter than direct Sun light. And its basically uniform. If you track long enough, and the secondary is dirty enough, it gets warm.
