Re: [ATM] hogging tool

Tile tools redeally aren't for hogging the initial curve into a
piece of glass. The tiles just aren't thick enough to be able to
do this unless you are planning opn putting more tiles on later.
Much better is to grab a pipe end cap or flange and do your
hogging that way. Also in the well working category is a diamond
edged saw blade which can be picked up for very cheap at Harbor
Freight, often being three for a ten dollar bill for four inch
blades. One of them will do a number of mirrors and they are
best used with an old speaker magnet to provide a nice handle on
them. Of course, no grit with a diamond tool as it provides its
own sharp edges for grinding glass very well.
Once you get the curve to approximate thte curve of the tile
tool, you can then smooth things out with it and then go down
through the grits. The 12" tool should work just fine on the
larger mirror although it may end up cutting deeper faster than a
full sized tool. I'd also recommend the tool on top approach for
grinding with teh smaller tool - trying to balance a large mirror
on top of a small tool can be an excellent exercise in futility
and aggervation!
